The first thing to do is NOT TO PANIC AND DO NOTHING .
It can be very Emotional and frightening when we decide to do a bit of spring cleaning in the shed or a back room , move some boxes or something around and find that piece of eaten skirting board or Termites ( white Ants) in some boxes .
The natural instinct is to Spray them with some Fly spray , Pour hot water over them or go to the local hardware shop and buy something .
This is a mistake as this will often scare them away and make it hard to find a feed point in which to start treating them .
Moving old furniture or the old post in the backyard may even make them move towards your home as they will need to find a new food source .
A Spot treatment , fixing the current problem , can be a inexpensive option if a full Termite management system is not wanted .
When Termites are disturbed this can make treating them all that slower and more difficult as a new feeding point has to be found .
Spot treatments usually require putting a Bait Box in place , Dusting or Foaming the problem areas .
All Spot treatment fixes require the using of Non Repellent Termiticides - This is important as the Termites don't know these are here and will happily work around them , in the process transferring the active back through the nest .
Just about everything you buy from your local hardware shop uses a Repellent active , this means that it will kill the Termites it comes into contact with but the Termites will stay away from it and won't transfer it back to other Termites .
Repellent Termiticides have there place but not in this sititution.
