What to do after a general pest control spray

So you’ve just had your home treated with a general pest control spray, now what?

Once the spray is dry you can safely move around the house as normal, wipe down the benches with soapy water, pet bowls can be put back out and toys can be played with. There are a few things you should do to get the most out of the treatment.

As a general rule, light cleanings (dust, vacuum, sweep) are perfectly fine three to five days after a treatment. As we focus our treatment around the skirting and base boards we recommend not, steam cleaning around these for the first two weeks after the pest control spray.

The same goes for pressure washing the exterior of the house. Avoid around the windows, eaves and the base of the walls where they meet the ground.

We advise against heavy cleaning in the first weeks after a spray, and removing cobwebs for 2 weeks, as this is where the pests and spiders hang out. You actually want them to walk over the spray and take it back to their nests and other pests.

It’s common for you to see more pests in the few weeks after a spray. The general pest spray has two effects:
- a repellent to push insects outside
- a pesticide.

As the repellent function works, it will push the insects out from their nests, holes, and crevices and into your sight. It’s ok, they will die down.

If ants are a particular problem, please don’t use over-the-counter sprays or sands and/or disturb ant nests. While the ants are walking across the general pest spray areas, they are taking the pesticide back to the nest for the rest of the ants to groom off of them.

If a few months have passed after your general pest spray and you’re seeing an increase in pest movement, we
suggest wetting down the exterior of your home where the treatment was sprayed to wash off any dust that has settled over the treatment.

Final thing to do after a general pest control spray

The last thing we recommend doing is to close up any gaps, cracks or other places pests can use to enter your home.

We suggest that you pay particular attention around doors, windows, vents, and pipes. Look at your eaves, fascia, and gutters for any places where sealing materials may have perished. Remove any wood or leaf litter that has gathered as they are perfect homes for pests. Remember that pests like dark areas that have access to food and water, keeping these away from your home is a great deterrent to having them move in.

One final thing, book your next general spray to keep your home and family protected. Call us Monday & Tuesday on 0404 489 260 and all other times call us on 0407 614 220. Alternatively, you can book online.
