So you’ve heard the scratching, chewing, and maybe even fighting, gone to investigate and to find out that you have rats! What do you need to know about rat control for your Adelaide home?

Damage caused by an uncontrolled rat problem

Rats are persistent and even outside are a risk to the health and safety of your family. Not only do rats carry many transmissible diseases but almost 10% of all house fires are caused by rats chewing household wiring.

Not only can they cause your home to burn down, but rats can:
- damage insulation
- chew through plastic, wood, floor joists, and walls
- cause failure to embankments, retaining walls, and other dirt filled walls through burrowing.

Signs you have a rat problem

So you might have heard the scratching around the house, here are some other signs that there are rats in your home:
  • Droppings, often in piles in the roof or around the house
  • Scratching noises in the roof, floor void, or walls
  • Marks along the skirting boards or bottoms of walls/fences
  • Teeth marks in food packets, walls, door frames
  • Feet, tail, and other narrow trail marks
  • Nesting material
  • Holes and burrows under decks and around the garden.

How to control a rat problem

Firstly, make sure all of your food containers are tightly sealed, that bins have secured lids, and any fruit that falls from trees is picked up. These things limit the rats’ food sources.

Our treatment usually involves finding and sealing entry points, setting up bait stations, maintaining baiting stations and thinking ahead to foresee any future issues.

All baiting and trapping is carried out with the best and safest products on the market. These treatments are pet and child safe. Please know that the bait we use as pest controllers are different from those you can buy in a supermarket or hardware store and we are happy to explain the differences and advantages of using a professional product.

Alternatively, you can book your rat control treatment now through our online booking system.
