4 Favourite Rodent Baiting Tips That'll Help You Battle Rodents

Of all the pests that have the potential to cause havoc in your home, rodents undoubtedly have the most destructive power. They might not be as infamous as say a rat king, but their sheer force of numbers and ability to breed like rabbits can make them just as devastating. Rodents are also notorious for their incredible resilience which is why a lot of people don't want to get rid of them. If you need help getting rid of rats or mice, then these rodent baiting tips are here to help.

How do you attract rats and mice to a bait station?

This is a question that many people have asked themselves when they find themselves in a position where they need to bait a station. The answer is that it is not easy to attract rats and mice to a bait station, but there are a few things that you can do to make it more likely.

You put a little bit of bait on the station and the rodents will come running. Rats and mice are attracted to the bait station because they are always looking for food. The rat and the mouse will smell the bait, and they will be attracted to it. If they’re really hungry they won’t care if the bait station is a trap. By the time they realize it, it would be too late. They’ll be trapped.

How long do bait stations take to work?

Picture
Bait stations are a great way to keep rodents away from your home and they are effective in most cases. They work best when you have a steady supply of pests and you are willing to wait for them to die. However, they take a bit of time to work. It can take up to a week for the rodents to find the bait and then die.

Bait stations are designed to lure rodents into them and then kill them. These stations are usually made of wood or plastic and are often shaped like a box or a cylinder. Some stations are designed to be buried in the ground to prevent the bait from being stolen by other animals; others are free-standing. Rodents are attracted to the bait and enter the station through a hole in the top or side. The rodent then gnaws through a wall and is blocked from exiting through the same hole. The rodent then starves to death. Sometimes, poisoned bait is placed in the station, which the animals eat and then die in a few days.

Can you rebait a bait station?

It's not just a question of whether you can rebait a bait station. It's a question of whether you should rebait a bait station. Sometimes a bait station is so old, or has been used so many times, that it's not worth the money or time to rebait it. It's better to just replace the bait station.

It's important to remember that some bait stations are designed to keep rodents away from a certain area. Once the bait has been eaten, it can be replaced with a new bait. This is particularly important in commercial buildings, especially where food is stored or prepared.

Additionally, rebaiting a station will help avoid rodent neophobia, or their fear of new things. An existing bait station will have rodent pheromones on it, this helps other rodents to trust the bait station and enter to ‘take the bait’. Repro-baiters should clean their stations and replace the old bait with new bait to avoid the rodent pheromones wearing off.

What to consider when switching baiting companies.

There are a lot of things to consider when switching baiting companies. You have to make sure you are not just changing companies because you are not getting the results you want. It is important to make sure the different types of bait you are using are not the problem. You also need to make sure the baiting company that you are switching to is qualified to control the pests you are having problems with. Switching to a different company takes time, patience, and research to make sure you are making a wise decision. Switching bait is not something that should be done in a hurry. If you are having problems with bait then you may want to ask a pest control pro to check the products that are being used first to make sure they are the right ones.

The impact of rodent neophobia on pest control

Rodents are the bane of many homeowners. They are destructive, they carry diseases, and they can be very difficult to get rid of. One of the most common ways to get rid of rodents is to use traps. However, many rodents are neophobic, meaning they are afraid of new things.

What is rodent neophobia?

Rodent neophobia is a natural phenomenon where rodents are fearful of new objects, or anything unfamiliar in their environment. It can also extend to the fear of new or novel foods and ensures that animals ingest only small quantities of new foodstuffs on the first exposure. If no illness results from consumption of the new food and assuming that the food is reasonably palatable, animals will increase their intake on subsequent exposures. Conversely, if ingestion of a novel food results in illness, the animal will avoid similar foods in the future.

How does rodent neophobia effect pest control?

Rodent neophobia is the fear and avoidance of new things. It's a common problem for pests, and it's a big problem for pest control. Rodents are naturally afraid of new things meaning they are less likely to come out and explore. Rodents are more likely to avoid new objects and even new food. This can make rodent control more difficult.

Rodent neophobia is a problem for pest control because it means that rodents will return to the same and familiar area. It also means that they will avoid going into new areas, traps, or new baits.  You can overcome rodent neophobia by being smart in the way that you deal with rodents.

How does MD Pest Control overcome rodent neophobia?

There are a few ways that MD Pest Control understands and uses rodent neophobia to your advantage.
  1. Rodent station rebaiting. By rebaiting existing stations, the rodents are used to seeing and eating from these stations and will commonly return to a ‘trusted’ food source. This includes rebaiting stations installed by previous owners or other companies.
  2. Rodent highways. By placing rodent baiting stations in the pathways used by rodents, they don't have to go outside their “comfort zone” to find and take the bait.
  3. Regular rebaiting. MD Pest Control offers regular rebaiting services and reminders so that the rodents are used to our baits.

All pests are products of evolution and have developed defences to survive. These defences can be manipulated through vigilance and knowledge to ensure you get the best pest control possible. Rodent neophobia is a real problem, and it's important to manage it in order to ensure that you, your home/building, family/friends/staff/clients are protected from rodents.

Rodents, like most wild animals, can become fearful of a certain thing when they are young, and that fear can continue into adulthood. This fear is called neophobia. But what does rodent neophobia and pest control have to do with each other? Well, rodent neophobia can be a major obstacle to pest control. Hopefully you can see how MD Pest Control combats their fears so that you can rest easy.
