Flies! Most of us have a first thought about flies inside our house that would have us being accused of trash talk. Generally, we see flies where we have rubbish or left-over food; a regular occurrence in the Christmas/New Year period.

Flies can be a real pest. Noisy, bothersome, sticky! And if they start to breed inside your house, you can find yourself surrounded very quickly

Fly Infestations

While two is company & three (when it comes to flies) can be a crowd; having a few flies buzzing around may not be a big problem, but it certainly needs to be acted upon.

With our urban sprawl you might find that those flies hanging around outside are a symptom of something more sinister… dead rodents in the yard, or worse, in the walls of your house.

Most of us know that flies carry disease. With them hopping from one spot to another, including your food, this can mean that diseases can be easily spread throughout your home and to your food.

Left uncontrolled, a small group of annoying flies can become a serious problem! Some fly species mature from eggs to adults in just seven days.

How to Keep Flies Away

Common Signs You Have a Fly Problem

  • Groups of little black spots - Look in light fittings & tops of walls that are out of the way & out of the breeze. Check hard to clean, and sometimes smelly, areas such as channels, drains, waste traps and wall/floor cavities.
  • Regular sighting of flies - large number of flies can point to a more serious problem. Check where water may pool (like you would for mosquitoes). Waterlogged pot plants can also attract flies.
  • Maggots – can point to a breeding site and a chance to nip an infestation in the bud.
Below is a list of simple steps you can take to keep flies at bay. But the first step to keep the flies out of your home, as with many other pests like spiders and cockroaches, is to keep it clean and tidy.

  • Keep Out- fit flyscreens to windows to keep them outside of your home.
  • Tidy Up – tidying up any spills and putting food away after your done is good food hygiene in more ways than one.
  • Rubbish / Compost bins – make sure they are in good repair and seal properly.
  • Pets - clean up after them.
  • Clear Up Dead Flies - they can be a food source for other pests.
  • Drains - ensure drains are kept clean. Our Eco-Friendly Bio-Drain treatments eliminate breeding grounds in drains within your home.
